It’s too late for this Hammer

|

Freddie Sears has made an unsurprising move away from the Boleyn, the 22 year old has joined John Ward’s Colchester United on a short term loan deal. West Ham’s number 19 has not even been able to make the Hammers bench for the past few games. There are many people saying that Sears is not good enough for us.

What went wrong? Home grown Sears had a debut to remember on the 15th March 2008 aged just 18. The Hammers were drawing with Blackpool when the academy master came on and scored. Well of course, he made himself a favourite amongst the West Ham faithful with that goal.

It all looked good for Sears. He had broken many records at youth level and had now not only made the jump from reserve team to first team at the tender age of 18, he had scored a winning goal for West Ham, which I feel was the worst thing he could have done.

45 appearances later Sears has added a single goal to his tally, taking it up to two goals. Unimpressive to say the least for the boy who the fans seem to just deal with given that he is a fan of the club he plays for.

Will this loan kickstart Sears’ Hammers career? To be blunt, I highly doubt it. Sears I feel is not physical enough or even good enough for us, especially if we return to the Premier League.

It’s a strange situation to say the least. The most promising player to come out of our famous academy in a long while, the man who broke scoring records set by the likes of Joe Cole has somewhat, flopped.
