FIVE Targets for the New Year

|

5.  Bring in Fresh Blood – A couple of good purchases on the transfer market are in order to bolster both the back line and the attacking options, as we are limited in squad depth in those two areas.  It’s nice to see Baldock and Reid back in the lineup, but when they were missing it was horrifyingly apparent that we lacked a finisher and our defense hasn’t looked too settled since the beginning of the season.

4.  Trim the Excess Fat – There are certain players in the squad that should be shown the door as soon as adequate players can be brought in or as soon as the selling of certain players would finance prudent purchases.  I won’t name names, but we all know who we are talking about here.

3.  Turn Upton Park into a Fortress Again – Some people have suggested that the atmosphere at Upton Park has been lacking for two seasons now.  I would dispute these claims, but I want to issue a challenge instead.  Let’s have Upton Park be the absolute, without question, toughest place to play this half of the season.  If that can happen, it’ll be so much easier for the boys to continue the push for promotion.

2.  Beat Millwall – We drew with them in the away fixture.  We host them at the Boleyn Ground on February 4th.  Let’s beat the absolute hell out of them and leave them wallowing below us once we are promoted.

1.  Promotion – It’s a must. We must get promoted.  Finances at the club are tenuous at best, fans are aching for a return to the league West Ham belongs in, and without doubt there is no reason why West Ham shouldn’t get promoted.  We have the manager, we have (most of) the players, and we have the fans.  Let’s get the wins, get up, and stay up.
