Would we welcome this Premier League defender?

|

James Tomkins looks like he is the hottest centre half property in the Championship at the minute with Spurs and Newcastle amongst other rumoured to be ready to pay up to 7 million for the young centre half. My opinion is that if the club sell him it would be a massive mistake as he is currently one of our best young players at the club and is the future of our back four.

But if the owners are left with an offer we cannot refuse we may be left searching up and down the country for a new centre half. However it seems that Big Sam has set his sights on French born Cameroonian international centre half Sebastien Bassong from those in the North of London Tottenham. Would Bassong be welcome on the hallowed turf of Upton Park?

Well here is my answer. It would be silly to turn our noses up at the prospect of signing such an experienced and quality centre back and if Spurs are willing to loan him to us I say we should be all over it. Bassong who has represented Spurs 44 times since arriving from Newcastle in 2009 has Premier league experience and quality over 4 years in the top flight. He would add much need quality in the back line as the injuries start to stack up and if we were to foolishly sell Tomkins he would be the ideal replacement.

Although it is unlikely that we will see him line up in the claret and blue for people to turn their noses up at the prospect of any Tottenham player is lying. Our team needs experienced heads quality confident players who has been there done it and got the t-shirt. Bassong is one of these players. If we are lucky enough to secure his services our squad would look better and our defence much more assured with him in it.

We may not like the unmentionables from the North of London but we would be stupid to say we are not in awe of the quality they have in there squad. We would love to have some of their players at the club, Bassong being one of them, a dream would be Pavlyuchenko and Krankjcar lining up facing the Alpari stand every home game.

No thanks, every one of their players we have had recently ends up injured or useless or both. Dont believe we should be doing business with Spurs anyway with all the hassle over the OS and Parker etc and no way should we let Tomkins go for whatever is offered. We need to keep out best players otherwise we may not get the promotion that we badly need.

By Big offer i mean in excess of 10-12 million, and i agree we shouldn’t do business with them but he is a top top player. And would add quality. But appreciate your comment and opinion.

Course they’re thinking of selling Tomkins, otherwise they’d have cup-tied him by giving him a game against Wednesday.

I hate the thought of doing business with Redknapp or Tottenham, but if this guy will help get us back to the premiership then of course we should take him.
