Lack of experience…still worth it?

Rangers forward Nikica Jelavić has been linked with a move to West Ham over the past few days. The Hammers have been searching for a striker for the whole of the January transfer window and Jelavić is the latest striker to be linked with a move to the club.

The Croatian international has a very good goal scoring record at the Glasgow club. In his 18 months at Rangers, he has scored 36 goals in only 55 games, with 30 in the SPL.

But would Jelavić be a good signing for West Ham? I’m not sure. Jelavić is the only striker linked with West Ham which I have mixed feelings about. There is no doubting his ability, it’s just the strikers who have joined a Premier League or Championship recently have failed to set the league alight.

One example is former Ger’s forward Kris Boyd. He is the SPL’s all-time leading scorer and was expected to a success south of the border. He wasn’t.

Boyd had a poor spell at Middlesbrough, only scoring six goals in 29 games. Although to be far to Boyd, he scored six in ten matches on loan at Nottingham Forest. But Boyd is now without a club.

Other strikers who haven’t done great in England include Scott McDonald and David Goodwillie, who is currently playing for Blackburn Rovers.

I just fear that if Jelavić joined West Ham he could become a flop. But if teams like Fulham and Liverpool are interested in signing Jelavić then there must be something in him.

I’m not sure that using Liverpool as a yard stick for sourcing good strikers is accurate…Carrol….35 Million???!!! I’d rather take a punt on this guy than Rhodes, SPL isn’t the EPL by any standard but it is on par with the majority of the championship, the reported 6 – 9 million IS a concern though

Hi Dirk I fear we may be paying too much for him. I agree someone like Rhodes may be a better option.

Sorry read your comment wrong. Think Rhodes may be a better option but then again he is too expensive. Hopefully we’ll get someone in before deadline.
