Are we happy to be turning into Tottenham’s feeder club once again?

|

West Ham fans must have thought that long gone were the days of their club being told what to do by their London rivals from the north, but it seems Harry Redknapp and co are trying to call the shots once again at Upton Park.

After taking Jermaine Defoe and Michael Carrick from the East End last time the Hammers were relegated it is worrying to hear that deja vu could be setting in. Irons fans faced the reality that last season’s Player of the Year Scott Parker was wanting to move back to the Premier League in the summer after Avram Grant led the club to relegation, but the fact that he ended up at White Hart Lane was a bitter blow for the supporters.

Parker has been immense for Spurs as they look set to be in the Champions League places for the foreseeable future but surely Redknapp won’t raid his former club once again will he? James Tomkins has been superb for the Hammers this season and has very much replaced the departed Mathew Upson as the main man at the back for the East Enders. But the Daily Mail reported this week that Spurs and Redknapp were preparing a bid for our prized asset this January to sure up their only real weakness at centre half.

The club and the owners have been quick to dismiss reports that they would sell to Spurs, but if the wealthy club made a £10million plus bid, then they would struggle to say no. A West Ham fan, Tomkins has come through the ranks at Upton Park and is committed to the club but what a cheek from Spurs to think they can bully their way to our team, just like they did just a few years ago.

Back then West Ham were given Bobby Zamora and Mathew Etherington as part of certain deals, and this time it seems Spurs are hoping the Hammers would accept more of their reserve players. Vedrun Corluka and Sebastian Bassong have both been linked with a switch to wear the claret and blue on loan after David Bentley already failed to make an impact earlier in the season on loan from Spurs.

It is time for David’s Gold and Sullivan to stand up for the club and refuse to let our best players walk away from the club in return for a quick buck and some unwanted players. Thankfully it appears that our owners do have the backbone to stand up for what they believe in but January could be a nervous few weeks for the Upton Park faithful.

Isn’t it every West Ham players dream to play for Spurs? I mean their fans want to be like us, so I don’t mind giving some of their better players a shot at the big time every now and again, it’s the neighbourly thing to do.

  • spuds hater says:

ha ha look another joker where do these muppets come from exactly

  • spurs guvnor says:

Spurs have played exactly half of the seasons matchs in the prem and already have more points than you pikeys got in the whole of last season. W ham are nothing.

  • DixonBainbridge says:

I just heard there was a fire at Upton Park and when the the police rang Sullivan and Gold about it they asked them if there was any damage to the cups but they told him not to worry as the fire brigade put the fire out before it reached the canteen.

  • SuperSpurs says:

No-one is exempt from feeding the larger fish. You feed us, we feed…wait…oh yea that’s right, and we are one of the big fish. The lesson here is you need to be super strong and have ambition. We no longer sell the players we want to keep. West Ham are neither strong nor have ambition so what do you honestly expect – big fish to leave you alone? Hardly – if it’s not us, it will be someone else. COYS!

  • SSG says:

Harry, in a brilliant tactical move, has given freedom to Bale and VDV to play where they want in the attacking end. Of course, he is just copying Grant, who last season told Scotty Parker to play where he wanted.

    He chose Spurs. 😉

  • SSG says:

Incidentally, don’t you Spammers think it’s silly to say we aren’t as big as the Arse? It’s a bit like us taking your lunch money every day, but you console yourself by saying someone else could take our lunch money if they were so inclined.

But whatever makes you feel better. Now, gimme your lunch money.

  • SSG says:

To you Spammers comparing Parker with Tomkins as a player we should be glad to have, let me point out the key difference:

Parker looked very good in the BPL, although in a poor team, surrounded by poor players.

Tomkins (one of those poor players on the few occasions I saw WH play) looks decent in a lower league side. This has no relation to how he might play in the top flight.

    You’re welcome.

    • spuds hater says:

let me tell you tomkins too good for the spuds by far , and west ham boy all the way so no chance of him joining your lot .

      • SSG says:

Yup, I saw lots of these comments regarding Parker last year: “He loves us; he’ll never go to Spurs.” Blah, Blah. Parker couldn’t wait to get off that Island of Misfit Toys you call a club. After he arrived, he gave a few interviews talking about glad was to be surrounded by decent players! (no joke; Goggle it). If Tomkins had the opportunity to go to a club in CL contention, he’d jump on it.

  • I EAT SPAM says:

West Ham – Spurs rivals….HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAAHAAAAAHAHAHAHAAHAHAHA, HAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHHAHHA I’m gonna die laughing!! but at least die happy knowing I support an actual team! hahahahahahahahaha

  • Will says:

I have always respected WHU for the football they try to play and that is after 55 yrs of WHL but the hate that flows from their supporters(and the club with the porn scum you now have in charge there) at times has me boggling.

I know nothing about Tomkins but he had better be a lot better then what we have (eg Caulkner) to
be worth any attempt to buy. As for Corluka: he is a good footballer and very versatile one (RB,CD. DMC) if a little slow & while I would like to keep him, I would be happy to have better and we have at least two other young RBs at the club:Smith & the “other” Kyle(Naughton). If Tomkins is much better than Samba then we should go for him. But if he is not then not. I don’t know him and I cannot answer about his quality but the bitterness above worries me

  • Rossi says:

Some of you Spurs lads on here really let us others down. I understand the hatred and like it or not we are rivals with the pikeys, on footballing terms we are not equals but a London derby it is and us fans hate one another with a passion and that makes us rivals. Tomkins is a player with definate potential and although were screaming out for that ‘special’ player and he clearly isnt, its ok for our management to still build on what is a pretty successful season SO FAR. I hate hearing this, “were a top 3 side” bollox, we doing well granted, really well but its sustaining that position over many seasons that gives us the right to make that statement. Ive supported Spurs for 30 years now and as much as i am excited and optimistic about our performances so far, i think it is important to not get carried away with it as it makes us sound soo fickle and muggish……fix up and look sharp

    • Will says:

Agreed!! Somne of our “supporters” woul;d be better off joining Chelsea’s lot.

Top Three? I will believe it at the end of the season and not before. We are grinding out results but the usual casualty list is escalating and once Bale gets an “unintentional”ankle tap too many or Modric doesn’t get up from a tackle from behind we will be really stuffed.

      • Dan Mac says:

I hate apologists, every club has muppet fans but don’t come in here and basically apologise to the West Ham fans to seperate yourself from the idiot fans. They are still Spurs fans so it’s they’re side you’re on, like it or not./ Anyway, read through the comments and you’ll see that basically the West Ham fans in here are scummy and bitter, not friendly banter, just stupid crap about Arsenal… You might not agree with some of the Spurs fans but no need to put yourselves on a pedestal.

        • Will says:

I do place myself on a pedestal going by some of what I see and hear. ie, the classical “scum” of Arsenal: the are a well run club who don’t try to buy yr best players(unless on a Bosman) I will never forgive them for 1919 and moving from Sth London but compared to the Chelscum, the Mancunites & the Bindippers(I was at the 0-7 were you?) they are not unlike us, while we had much in common with WHU until the porn kings(& queen) took over and created a gutter mentality…ask any BC supporter…anyone was better than that lot.

You sound a bit like an SS man saying to a Wehrmacht soldier: just because I am shooting civilians doesn’t mean we are not on the same side. The sneerers here might be on the same side as myself but I dont have to drop to their level and DB & DM would agree.

    • Richard says:

Totally agree. I’m a Spurs supporter for 50 years. Let’s finish in the top 4 for a few years running before we get carried away with how great we are. Re: Tomkins – don’t know the lad much but if we need CB cover (and I don’t think we do) it is likely to be to be temp cover and I think there are cheaper proven PL players we could could look at and maybe make money on if we sell on in the future, so doubt Tomkins will be wanted by to us at the money quoted in this artical. Re: Spammers selling to spurs, then simply don’t if you don’t want to – end of story. Nobody can force you and despite “player power” if you hold the player’s contract you don’t have to sell but you have to be a big enough club to cope with the player throwing a strop. COYS

  • rob spurs says:

Typical pessimistic Spurs fans. You make me sick. Call yourself supporters? ‘Oh what if one or two of our best players get injured, it will all be over’. You can say that about any team except Man City, and losing Silva and Toure wouldn’t do them a lot of good. Rooney and Nani? Man U screwed. Mata and Terry? Chelsea knackered. Van Persie? (just Van Persie) Goodbye Arsenal. Since our third game, which is around half the season, we have scored more points than any other team in the league, including Man City. Of course we will be so so lucky to still be in third after the other half of the season. And you accuse other fans of giving us a bad name? I think you two should be the ones to go support another club. One which gets itself relagated so you can moan about it and be in your comfort zone.

    • Crisandro says:

      Well said, mate.

      • Richard says:

Again, spurs supporter for 50 years here. What I find truly sad is when (in the past) we have a great and historic result from a one-off game we bring out a DVD. NP with the club earning money but where is the perspective, where is the self respect. I hope we never do that sort of thing again. BTW no one can tell me I don’t have the right to support my beloved club because I want to see us sustaining the progress we have made this season. There have been too many false starts with managers and players over the last 50 years all of which were very painful to see hopes raised and dashed. In many ways during that time it would have been convenient to switch sides and support another top team but (as many a spammer will know and, in fact all fans) supporting a team is not a head thing but a heart thing. Good or bad I could never support anyone other than my club. Simply couldn’t do it. BTW it’s good to see this site seems to have become a spurs blog 😉 COYS

    • Dan Mac says:

      Agreed

    • Will says:

Now that is one stupid comment. Yes, you are obviously a WHU fan but you have NO idea of what it is like to be a THFC supporter. Loads of potential and bugger all else except the odd cup.

Apologist/pessimest? Listen mate after 55 yrs of mostly very good football and ONE league title despite nearly getting one about 10 other (dont run off and look at tables as they tell u f***all about a season)occasions we are entitled to be sceptical about our success.

As for the crap about the others only Arsenal are too dependent upon VP and look at them with him! Whereas MU.Ch MC just buy another 3 or 4 100k/week players.

LiverpooI i dislike far more than WHU and only MU comer close to them. 20 years of thrashings does that to you.We rarely thrshed you.

I will bet you were not there at WHL when WHU beat us 0-4 in the ?2nd game of the season. We didn’t hate u lot as you played well but we never got out of bed and w eknew our seson was screwed already.

I try to be fair but idiots like you make me sick. Sure I don’t know what its like to be a WHU supporter but neither do you a THFC one

  • WhuWill says:

Do spurs fans live in a dream world? They had one good season in which they got champions league and immediately they think they’re best team in the country and now they are sitting 3rd they are all still on there high horse, but once Harry goes they will be back supporting Chelsea or Arsenal, And also We get slagged off for Relegation but in reality it was a good thing, we got rid of Avram and got rid of our overpaid useless players!
Really hope my phone don’t get hacked by levy from posting from my phone!

    • Dan Mac says:

Back supportuing Chelsea or Arsenal… don’t mug yourself off like that. Spurs have always had big support, always sold out the ground even when we spent 20yrs being sh1t!!! (however, not sh1t enough to ever get relegated in that time)… look, we’re a good team, I can even get that much from my Arsenal mates, who admit they all like watching Spurs and we’re now a big cvlub… West Ham fans need to lose the chip on their shoulders… you’re not talking any sense, just saying whatever you can to be a bitch. Remind me of a chavvy girl having an argument… just talking shit to be a bitch!

    • Will says:

OMG! some one who reads the media and even worse:believes it.

err your post is just a crib of much of the above dirt throwing. If harry is so good how come he did so little with you lot? IMHO harry is good but what did u lot do to him while he was manager?
Tie his hands together? He built a good Pompey side within a year but then you will just throw the taxation crap at him wont you?

Bitter twisted bunch..I am starting to agree.

      • spuds hater says:

we will always be loyal up or down we are the best supporters in the land and yes bitter and twisted but not big headed !

        • Billy--The-Yid says:

Best supporters in the land.. Hahahahaha i’ve heard it all now.. I’ve never heard a team get booed as much as Wet Spam.. The last time you won something was 1980 that’s 32 years ago.The two porn merchants and fat gob Brady have to sell tickets for a quid to get fans in that dump. Good supporters??? one of the worst in te country FACT.

    • rob spurs says:

What an idiotic comment to come from a fan of any team. To suggest that that Spurs fans would support another team when they are not doing well is as absurd as suggesting West Ham fans would do the same. That’s just a weird insult to throw.

Anyway, glad you thought relegation was a good thing. Something tells me you came to that zen like conclusion only after it had happened though, correct?

      • spuds hater says:

what a load of crap comes from them spuds mouths wet spam as you call them will be back to silence you lot once and for all, make the most of this season saddos. coyi!

  • BrizzleSpur says:

    It’s just business…
Spurs can’t afford the likes of Toure or Silva. Levy has to be shrewd and go for local affordable talent.
As for the manner in which fans conduct themselves, I have to admit that some spurs fans have started to sound like Arsenal fans. But only because i prefer to take a more intellectual and retrospective approach to things.
I don’t want to live in a world where yids and gooners hold hands and make kissy faces.
But some people are just plain ignorant with their comments and criticisms, and I wouldn’t want to be confused with the likes of them in any walk of life.

  • Coys says:

Comedy genius the author of the article. Wet spam are a second rate team at best. Your best player this season is bentley and he couldn’t be arsed to play.

Know your place, you have never been rivals. You are just a feeder club and your fans are deluded muppets.

    • spuds hater says:

ha ha deluded coming from a sad tootsie fan , what a mug, bedtime!

      • rob spurs says:

lol. You rise to every comment don’t you? You fool. You only seem to want to talk about Spurs. Even your sreen name has the hilarious (if you are four) ‘spuds’ nickname in it instead of anything to do with West Ham. Why not try following your own club for a while? depressing as it may be.
I appreciate the irony that I’m writing this on a West Ham website, but it is on the Spurs newsfeed and the title of the piece is too amusing to resist.

  • Rontheyid says:

Don’t worry about the mighty Spurs, worry about living in Millwall shadow.

    • spuds hater says:

rob spurs i luv it m8 , what nothing else interesting on yours then. Follow west ham but hate you lot cos your so full of it. never depressing being a hammer followed em too long for that, and rontheyid haha now you are stupid.

  • H says:

Tompkins is not a target for Spurs, he wouldnt get in there D team, Bassong is much better than him and only wants to leave to play games.
People forget Bassong played 30 odd games when Spurs finished 4th, hes no mug, he just needs a run of games and maturity and he’ll be a very good player.
To the little pikey spaammers, do yourselfs a favour, now that the PRON brothers and there HO have been found out and are stuck with a running track for 99 years, keep the feck away from that claret and blue elephant of an Olympic shitehole, your £100m in debt as it is, its fun coming to play at your trashy little gaff, good atmosphear blah blah, do your selfs a favour and stay put.
Thats the only bit of advice ill chuck from a genuine football fan:)
PS look forward to seeing you next year spammies lol

    • spuds hater says:

cant wait you pathetic saddos we will welcome the 6 points. pron brothers eh never heard of them, get a life and get off ya high horse you think your elite you spuds but we think your a joke club, and we are right so get your crumpets and tea and toddle off to bed and you might wake up in the real world ya muppet,

      • SSG says:

Spuds, I’d welcome a reasoned debate over the merits of our two clubs, but I don’t think you’d get past name calling.

But, let’s try; lay it out for me; why are Spur a joke club, as you put it?

Some might think an often relegated club, with huge debts, trying to get into a white elephant stadium with a running track, and porn merchants as owners would be the joke club.

But you did win England the World Cup. Which is nice.

  • spuds hater says:

oh thanks m8 at least you remember that, thats nice . you can call us a joke club it would make no difference m8 we are what we are and we luv it. coyi!

  • I do agree with all of the ideas you have introduced on your post. They are really convincing and can definitely work. Nonetheless, the posts are very quick for novices. May just you please extend them a little from next time? Thanks for the post.

  • Jacob Yid says:

Bottom line spuds = no trophies again
