Top FIVE victories over Millwall

West Ham travel to the New Den on Saturday, where current manager Sam Allardyce takes on one of his former clubs Millwall. The fixture is legendary for its fierce rivalry, and the last time these two sides met they was trouble before, during and after the game (not for the first time. Millwall currently lead West Ham 38 wins to 33, but West Ham will be hoping to do the double over their rivals this season. Let’s take a look at the top five memorable games:

5) West Ham 3-0 Millwall 1904

West Ham’s first ever game at the Boleyn Ground was a three goal trouncing of Millwall, a hat trick from Billy Bridgeman secured the Hammers a famous win.

4) Millwall 3-5 West Ham 1972

Former West Ham trainee and Millwall legend Harry Cripps had his testimonial against his first club at the Den. West Ham ran out eventual winners but the game was marred by organised violence before, during and after the game.

3) Millwall 1-3 West Ham 1913

West Ham recorded their first ever win at the Den in a Southern League tie back in1913, they would have to wait another seven years for their next victory there.

2) Millwall 0-1 West Ham 1988

The first ever top flight clash between the pair, a Paul Ince goal was enough to secure West Ham victory on the day. West Ham went on to do the double over Millwall that year (the first and only time from either club) but the six points was not enough to help keep West Ham in the division. 

1) West Ham 3-1 Millwall 2009

The last clash between these two sides was the first ever League Cup meeting between the pair. West Ham ran out 3-1 winners after extra time but again the game was marred by violence before, during and after the game, with West Ham on the receiving end of an FA fine for failing to control their supporters.
