Would bringing back an old boy be good business?

|

West Ham are becoming one of the most talked about clubs ahead of the January transfer window that opens over the weekend, and the striker hunt is well and truly on for Sam Allardyce and the two David’s.

A lot of talk over the past 48 hours has been about Huddersfield Town striker Jordan Rhodes, but Town club chairman, manager Lee Clark and the player himself have all said they do not want a deal to happen. So is it time for the Hammers to look elsewhere?

The rumour that keeps popping up every other day is to Fulham striker and former Irons hitman Bobby Zamora. Newspaper reports suggest that the England forward has had a major falling out with his current boss Martin Jol and is looking for a move in January. Fulham will not want to lose their main man up front but if West Ham bid the reported £8million that he is worth then they may not have a choice.

Zamora left Upton Park in 2008 alongside John Pantsil for a combined fee of over £6million after scoring 40 goals for his boyhood Hammers. Since then the striker has no doubt improved and has made his England debut in the past 12 months.

The former Spurs striker has never been a prolific goalscorer but there is so much more to his game that goals and his hold up play and aerial ability should not be underestimated. However, other West Ham targets such as Nicky Maynard, Billy Sharp and Andy Johnson will all produce better goals per game ratios than the big man and will all certainly be cheaper.

The two main things that Zamora will give you in the long run is his passion for the club and vital Premier League experience. The others have not had as much Premier League game-time as Zamora and so when West Ham are promoted in May he will be able to make the step up no problem. The fact that he is a big fan of the club has made him a crowd favourite and with the Upton Park faithful who are becoming more and more frustrated with the lacklustre Carlton Cole, Freddie Piquionne and John Carew, that could be vital.

It would be nice to have Zamora back in the East End and he definitely wants to stay in the capital but the price tag is unrealistic for our owners and there are definitely better options out there for the New Year.

    heard on the radio yesterday, he’s a likely target for Liverpool, so put yourself in Zamora’s position and ask yourself this question “Liverpool in the Premiership, or West Ham in the Championship?” seems like a pretty obvious choice to me…………COYI ‘><'

      @essexfootyfan

      Bobby Z has already stated he would rather move to a championship club than move out of London, so hopefully he will return to were he belongs. WHU Forever!!!!
