I think given our current league standing and the way the team are currently playing together it would be a shame to lose any players in January bar a select few. At the moment we have to admit that West Ham aren’t playing the greatest football, however I think its good to see the team playing more as a unit than they have been towards the start of the season.
In this writer’s humble opinion it seems like the majority of the new signings have settled in well at the Boleyn and now there is a certain air of togetherness. January poses somewhat of a threat to us, as some of our more influential players as of late have been linked with moves away from the Irons. Players like James Tomkins and Carlton Cole have both been linked with a transfer in January.
Tomkins has been heavily linked with QPR and I think it’s fair to say that he would be one of the greater losses. A home-grown talent that has lately very much proved his worth and in many ways is the key to the defence in most games. Tomkins would be a very hard player to replace if he were to go in January. Big Sam also has to think of the effect it would have on the team if certain players leave.
Our objective for the end of this season is to gain promotion and I feel at the moment we do look like we could achieve that, however if players such as Tomkins and Cole were to go in the transfer window what would that do to the overall team?
It’s possible that the loss of some players could upset the team spirit and in turn could have an effect on how we play in the second half of the season. I think that it would be best if we could hold onto the key players as they play a big part in the team and there could be bad consequences if they were to go.

West Ham shouldn’t and won’t be worried come January. If players such as Cole and Tomkins were going to leave they would have done in the summer. And if they were going to leave the club in January then they would do so if the club were struggling in the league. West Ham are clearly not struggling, and in fact I think we are playing nice attacking football. We control the midfield like we never have before, we have the best defence in the league and we are on a four game win streak with six wins and one draw in the last seven. And that’s with injuries. So how you can say we arnt playing the greatest football is beyond me. Big Sam has made some great signings, turning a messed up squad into a solid and possitive one. I’m sure your one of the select few that either think Big Sams style of play is boring or think that Nolan isn’t pulling his weight, if your not I apologise, but I’m sick of it. West Ham are looking good and if anyone truly believes that Tomkins a player who has grown up with the club would leave for a team like QPR then they need to seriously re-think it through. Cole has already expressed his desire to stay at the club and considering he is still here helping the club in the Championship then I think we should trust his statement.
So NO … We shouldn’t be worried, not even in the slightest. Look at the table and how we are playing right now and relax a little bit. The best thing happened to West Ham last season and that was relegation… We needed it more than anyone will ever know. Our squad now is in my opinion better than last seasons and come summer our squad will only get stronger, and looking at some of the teams in the PL now it won’t be hard to stay there!
Well infact im not one of those people and to be fair if the move is better for the player then they will leave, regardless of our league position.
Give the bloke a break Craig!!!!!!! he is right in what he is saying. we should be worried about loosing players no matter if they are rumoured to go or not! We are playing well as a unit and we should be worried about loosing our key players! come on fella, dont criticise for those things, the bloke’s right !
