Would we actually want the most hated man in Manchester?

|

So it was inevitable wasn’t it that Arthur Daley and Del Boy were going to link themselves to Carlos Tevez once word came out that he was once again unhappy at City and allegedly looks never to play again for City, I swear if Batman announced he was looking for a club, SuGold would express their interest in getting him.

Now although it’s very unlikely that the man will return to Upton Park, if we remarkably did see him grace the East End again, would this be a welcome return and would we actually want him?

There are two schools of thought here, yes and no.

Yes, we’d love him back of course!  I mean, I hate to admit it as admitting it further confirms our guilt in the Sheffield United affair, but he did save us from relegation and was monumental in turning around our fortunes on the pitch.  He scored goals, which as we all know wins games and his influence on the pitch was extraordinary.  He brought out a lot in other players and his presence gave the team, dare I say it, a world class edge.  He was a fans favourite who loved the people of West Ham and showed great gratitude and respect whenever he scored against us by refusing to celebrate, but rather saluted fans as a mark of respect.  As soon as he scored his first goal and threw himself into the crowd, fans knew they had a hero in their side.  He’s since proved himself in the Premiership with two top teams and won practically everything, now imagine that experience and quality in the Championship, despite the differences in the two leagues (with Championship argued to be faster and more physical), I think Tevez would tear up the league and his goals would practically seal the title up for us and further give us that extra edge we need up front.

Here’s why it might be a bad idea.  Wages would be a big concern, Gold and Sullivan hark on and on about how bad our finances are and how money in football is spiralling out of control, but they don’t ever seem to practise what they preach with them constantly being linked to these high profile players who come at a big price.  Some of the money wasted on certain players, one example being Benni McCarthy, doesn’t really encourage they are the most financially astute guys.  With Tevez being on astronomical wages at City, he obviously wouldn’t be prepared to take a cut in pay and SuGold have offered to pay a small percentage of his wages.  The worrying thing is when you mention a small percentage; small to Man City means something in the realm of 50k a week.  This would be a big gamble financially and if we were not able to reap the benefits of a Tevez return, it could prove disastrous.

A lot has also changed since 2007; we have seen Tevez go to two arguably big clubs with big ambition and seen him win almost everything.  However, reports have always been rife of Tevez being unable to settle as a player and never appearing very happy.  His controversial move to City from United also suggested he can be a bit of a mercenary and sometimes his heart isn’t always in it.  If a Champions League team fighting for the Premiership isn’t big enough for him and perhaps doesn’t meet his ambition, is he going to be happy playing in the Championship and slogging it out, especially on those rainy away trips up north on a cold Tuesday evening?  Perhaps there is an attitude problem there, and it certainly wouldn’t be welcome at Upton Park.  Our campaign so far under Big Sam in the Championship hasn’t been as easy as people predicted, and so the last thing we need is a enormous ego clouding the dressing room.  Also, I think if Tevez did return to West Ham, it might tarnish our memories of him as the main man who saved our skin back in 2007.  It’s always good to have a fond memory of someone as a player, and as tempting as it may be, I think a move back to the Hammers might not suit us and our perception of him in the history books.

I’m fed up keep hearing about the ‘Tevez affair’ the fact of the matter is, Sheffield United couldn’t beat a ten man Wigan at home on the last day of the season to stay up! Granted, we played an illegible player and have been punished in spades, infact 3 times, the 5.5 million to the Premier league, the initial 25 million to Sheffield United, then a further 5 million to them when the club changed hands, makes me sick the way people keep on about it. Carlos Tevez would be welcomed back with open arms, apart from the modern day Ince (Judas Parker) he’s the only one who showed any spirit in recent years!

totally agree with the wigan thing, if you cant beat them at home the way they were going, you deserve to go down – especially after throwing away a ten point lead over the Hammers.

And please, Scott Parker is not a Judas, still quite sick over the fact some people still have bad feelings to him going to Spurs.

Scott Parker was our best player by far last season, and the one before that, but the fact remains he was part of the squad that got us relegated. Crapello still picked him, while in the Championship, so the ‘need to be playing in the Premiership’ is a load of bo****ks! He couldn’t wait to turn his back and go, mind you, l don’t only blame him, Sullivan lied to us fans, remember “we’ll never sell Scott Parker to Spurs” last January? As far as l’m concerned, him, Defoe and Ince are as bad as each other………COYI ‘><'
