West Ham are close to signing Atletico Madrid striker Raul Jimenez on loan until the end of the season.

According to Spanish newspaper AS, the Mexican has sealed his work permit and can now sign for the Hammers. The club have paid a £1.4 million loan fee for the striker and Slaven bilic will be hoping that Jimenez can provide some much-needed cover and extra quality to West Ham’s attack.

The Mexican was offered the chance to sign on a permanent deal but has instead opted to join on loan in order to keep alive his future with Atletico Madrid. Hopefully the player will be desperate to impress and he’ll be hoping to get more game time in 2015/16. The forward played just 593 minutes in La Liga last season, scoring a single goal. To put things into perspective, Carlton Cole played 326 minutes more than Jimenez so that shows just how little football the Mexican played last year.

Although some fans may not be too impressed with the forward’s imminent arrival, he certainly has potential and has impressed for the national side, scoring two goals in this summer’s Copa America. With no other concrete moves in the pipeline at the moment, West Ham will want to get this deal over the line before the trip to Arsenal in order to provide good cover for Diafra Sakho up front.
