Andy Goldstein revealed he was confident that Jose Mourinho wouldn’t be keen on becoming West Ham manager as he’d want to be at a club that will spend £200million in a single transfer window.
A fan called into talkSPORT’s Drivetime Show, which Goldstein was hosting, and suggested that Mourinho is the ideal person to replace Manuel Pellegrini in the hot seat at the London Stadium, and the broadcaster wasted no time shooting the suggestion down.
“He’d want £200million to spend, he won’t get that at West Ham,” said Goldstein on talkSPORT (16:23, Tuesday, November 19th).
The fan claimed that Pellegrini had spent £180million while West Ham manager over the last two seasons and Goldstein claimed Mourinho would want to spend £200million in one window before insisting that “he won’t go there.”
Jason Cundy revealed he’d be surprised if Mourinho became West Ham boss despite admitting that the ex-Premier League manager is “looking for work.”
OPINION
Pellegrini is still West Ham manager, but it seems everyone would rather suggest who should replace him, rather than hope the experienced boss turns it around and starts guiding the club up the table. While the Hammers have failed to win any of their last six Premier League matches, maybe people should wait to see if the manager gets his marching orders before drawing up a list of replacements for him, as it’s a little disrespectful. Also, Pellegrini could easily end up back in West Ham’s good books if his side rack up a couple of good results in their next matches, after all the Hammers are only four points off sixth-placed Arsenal, so a couple of wins on the bounce and everyone could potentially be praising Pellegrini for his work at the club. The Hammers are next in action against Tottenham, and you have to feel that if Pellegrini gets a win over Spurs then no one will be calling for his head as Spurs are the club’s biggest rivals so a win against them always feels extra special.
