West Ham phone ‘red hot’ with manager offers

West Ham co-owner David Sullivan has been inundated with offers from potential successors to under-fire Hammers boss Manuel Pellegrini, according to Football Insider

The Chilean manager has seen his side go six games without in the Premier League now, and it is understood that there have been a barrage of calls from agents claiming their clients are the one to turn around the Irons’ fortunes.

But the report also states that the Hammers are willing to keep their word and stick with Pellegrini until at least after the current international break.

It’s hard to know what to make of this. Clearly the Hammers are a huge club, and one that most managers would bite your hand off to take the wheel at. To that end, a glut of candidates throwing their hats in the ring is hardly a surprise, but it does feel awfully cynical. West Ham are in bad form, clearly, but to have the vultures circling like this is bordering on vulgar. You would hope that the Hammers do keep their word and give Pellegrini another chance, especially after funding his transfer activity to such a heavy extent over the past two summers. No doubt many fans will be eager to see who the alternatives are, especially as patience runs thin following such a dire slump in form, and it is reassuring to hear that there are so many people up for the job, but when all is considered, it’s only fair that they hang on a little while longer before ousting Pellegrini.
