West Ham not convinced by Parker

|

West Ham United have not been convinced by trialist defender Mich’el Parker, according to Football Insider.

The reputable football outlet claim on their website that the Hammers are unsure on whether Parker has done enough to earn a contract at the London Stadium.

Football Insider report that the club’s academy coaches are undecided if Parker has the ability that is needed to develop into a first-team player for West Ham.

The 21-year-old has been on trial with the Irons for a month after being released by Liverpool and Millwall after a year-long spell at the Championship club last season.

OPINION

This doesn’t make for good reading, especially for Parker. Given that West Ham coaches are not convinced by the 21-year-old after playing for the under-23s, it appears that there are very slim chances that he would be able to eventually make the step up to the Premier League any time soon. It never looked good for Parker though, and West Ham can’t really have believed that he could have been at the required standard in defence if he was released by Millwall – a struggling Championship club. Parker’s career has slowly gone downhill since he left Liverpool after a three-year spell and the chances of Premier League football in his career are getting slimmer by the year. West Ham may be looking for defensive reinforcements in January, but what they need right now is experience at the back, not a youngster who would need playing time in the under-23s before settling into to action in the Premier League.
