Robinson claims top-six still achievable

|

Paul Robinson has claimed that West Ham United can still achieve a top-six finish in the Premier League this season under Manuel Pellegrini.

The Sky Sports pundit admitted that the Hammers still have enough talent in their squad to grasp the potential opportunity that could present itself after Tottenham and Manchester United have started slowly.

Robinson shared that there is a different strength in the West Ham side under Pellegrini this season and that they have enough to overcome their poor patch which has seen them go winless since the end of September in the Premier League.

“West Ham have always got ambitions of the top-six,” Robinson told Football Insider.

“Let’s say there’s a different feel this year, there’s a different feel to their ambition.

“Also, the form of Tottenham and Manchester United, there’s a real opportunity there. This is the first year I think that’s a real opportunity – Leicester for example – there is a real opportunity for West Ham and Leicester to break that top-six this year.”

OPINION

It is hard to see anything other than another mid-table finish for West Ham this season at this point, but we all know that the Premier League table can change significantly in the space of a couple of weeks. The way the league is going at this moment, no one is looking particularly solid outside the top three of Liverpool, Manchester City, and Leicester. As Robinson mentions, Tottenham and Manchester United are not their usual selves and the Hammers have to take advantage of those slip-ups. It is important Pellegrini’s side get back on the bike against Burnley and put this nightmare month behind them. If you want to finish in the top-six, you have to pick up three points against every side in the bottom half, home and away, it is as simple as that, and the Hammers can not afford any more setbacks like the one they suffered against Newcastle last time out.
