There is optimism that Lukasz Fabianski could make a return to West Ham’s starting XI as early as mid-December, according to Claret & Hugh.
The Pole has been sidelined since the 2-2 draw with Bournemouth at the end of September, and had been expected to remain out until the new year.
But a report from the reliable source claims that hopes are mounting for a speedier recovery than initially anticipated.
The article states that the Hammers will continue to look for a new back-up goalkeeper in January, regardless of Fabianski’s fitness at that stage.
OPINION
This would be brilliant news for the Hammers. Fabianski has been keenly missed, arguably even more than initially expected, and the sooner he is back in the staring lineup, the better. Roberto, who looked to be a decent deputy at first, has gone to pieces in recent weeks, and suspect incidents in two consecutive games, capped off with that absolute howler against Burnley on Saturday, have surely shown that an alternative has to be found as soon as possible. The Spaniard has averaged five saves per game, as per Whoscored, and at times, he looks the real deal, but there is simply no excuse for the level of inconsistency he is currently exhibiting. It’s perhaps no coincidence that the Hammers have suffered such a slump with him in the side, and while he isn’t a miracle antidote, having Fabianski back would be a massive bonus.
