Fornals is Pellegrini’s big problem

The poor form of West Ham United playmaker Pablo Fornals is manager Manuel Pellegrini’s biggest problem, according to Claret & Hugh.

The reliable Hammers news source claims that the Spanish international has been so bad since his summer move that he is now a major headache for the Chilean.

Indeed, the report questions whether Pellegrini can trust him to come in and play well, even when he’s so desperate for players to step up to the plate?

Jack Wilshere’s injury problems have continued this season, while Felipe Anderson and Manuel Lanzini have both been indifferent thus far, but Fornals has perhaps been the most disappointing.

OPINION

There’s no doubt that Fornals has become a big black mark against both Pellegrini and director of football Mario Husillos at West Ham. He’s done next to nothing since joining the club, scoring against Newport County in the Carabao Cup in August but has done precious little since. The statistics demonstrate that the 23-year-old has been absolutely anonymous for the Hammers this campaign. As per WhoScored.com, Fornals is averaging just 1.1 shots, 0.6 key passes and 0.4 dribbles per game, while he is being dispossessed once and having an unsuccessful touch per outing. That proves that he’s doing very little from a creative point of view, while his finishing hasn’t been good enough. Husillos and Pellegrini put so much faith in Fornals over the summer, paying a lot of money to get him in from Villarreal, but he’s not repaying that trust at the moment. He really needs to get going, otherwise his manager and director of football could pay the price.
