COMMENTARY
Many West Ham fans raved about defender Ryan Fredericks after his display in the 2-1 loss to Crystal Palace on Saturday. One Hammers supporter claimed that the right-back deserves more credit, while another fan suggested it was time the right-sided flyer was dubbed world-class. It’s no surprise that Fredericks had fans eager to praise him as his outing against Palace went very well. The right-back was rarely caught out at the back and it was his beautiful cross into the box that Sebastien Haller was able to turn home to open the scoring. While the Hammers ended up not being able to hold onto their lead due to Declan Rice making a rare mistake which led to a penalty for Palace, that shouldn’t take away from Fredericks’ display. Also, it shouldn’t be a surprise that the defender was a reliable performer against Palace, after all, he has hit the ground running this season. The 26-year-old has kept the experienced Pablo Zabaleta out of the team by being consistent and by pulling his weight defensively by averaging an impressive 2.6 tackles per game as well 1.1 interceptions per game across his league outings this season (Source: WhoScored).
