Successful football teams are always looking for the next big thing. Scouting the best young talent is an essential part of remaining at the top level.
That’s what West Ham United are trying to do, both within their own academy and outside of it, and they might just be on the brink of a masterstroke.
Football Insider reported on Friday that the Hammers are confident of beating European giants Atletico Madrid, Juventus and Manchester United to 16-year-old goal machine Mipo Odubeko.
The teenager is available as a free agent having left the latter at the end of last season in search of a more realistic pathway to regular football, something which is seemingly giving the east London outfit the edge over this trio of ‘bigger’ clubs.
With that said, the West Ham supporters are surely licking their lips that a deal for one of the country’s best young talents is seemingly close to being done.
Football Insider’s report states that the Irons have offered the youngster a lucrative contract offer, and hopes are clearly high that he will accept their terms.
The excitement will only increase at the London Stadium when the fans learn that this is a young man who scored a tremendous 35 goals over the course of last season for the Red Devils’ various youth teams.
Then there’s his attitude, which seems exemplary. This is a youngster who knows what he wants, and isn’t afraid to go out and get it. He’s clearly cottoned on to the fact that United are a side in turmoil, and is looking to get out of there as a result.
If he can deliver on his undoubted potential then this is a potential signing that will have the Hammers faithful jumping for joy in the years to come.
