West Ham United midfielder Jack Wilshere will have a fitness check prior to Saturday’s clash with Crystal Palace, according to Claret & Hugh.
The reliable Hammers news source claims that the England international, on a reported £100,000-per-week at the club [Source: Spotrac], picked up a knock against Bournemouth last time out.
The report states that Manuel Pellegrini is likely to pick an unchanged team for the game at the London Stadium, meaning that Wilshere will probably only make the bench even if he does past his fitness check.
There aren’t likely to be too many West Ham fans that are particularly concerned about the prospect of Wilshere missing out against Palace, especially considering the poor start he has made to the season. The 27-year-old has once again struggled to hit top form for Pellegrini’s side, although a lack of consistent game time has hampered his progress. As per WhoScored.com, the former Arsenal man has made just two Premier League starts and two substitute appearances this term, with his average WhoScored rating per game a disappointing 6.04 thus far. Because of those sub appearances he is only averaging 11.8 passes per game, although his pass success rate of 85.1% is encouragingly solid. However, he has yet to score, assist or make a key pass, while his defensive statistics are nothing to write home about either. With that said, the news that he is a doubt for Saturday probably won’t faze too many West Ham supporters.
