Mills gushes about Cresswell consistency

Danny Mills has been impressed with West Ham United left-back Aaron Cresswell and his consistency at the start of the Premier League season.

The 29-year-old recently replaced Arthur Masuaku after the defender picked up a red card in the 0-0 draw against Aston Villa, and has started every single game since under Manuel Pellegrini, scoring twice in the previous three fixtures.

Mills went on to claim that Cresswell has been on the verge of an England international call-up numerous times in the past couple of seasons due to his form when starting for the Hammers.

“I think for the last few seasons he’s been very consistent at left-back,” the Sky Sports pundit told Football Insider.

“He’s been on the verge of international on a couple of occasions.

“Everybody’s entitled to an off day, it happens to the best of us, but I think for the last couple of seasons he’s shown incredible consistency. You know what you’re going to get, he works hard and that’s great to have in a defender.”

Cresswell has certainly stepped up to the mark when called upon at the start of this Premier League season. Without the red card to Masuaku, it was hard to see a way back into the starting line up for the 29-year-old, who has taken his chance and more with his recent displays. His consistency at left-back has definitely cemented his place there going forward, and his performances earned him a new contract at the London Stadium on Wednesday. Despite scoring two goals, it has been his solidarity in defence that has caught the eye. Cresswell has averaged 2.3 tackles and 1.5 clearances per game according to WhoScored and has continued to impress Mills. Cresswell needs to keep his head down and continue performing at West Ham, and an international call-up would come as no surprise to anyone, with that surely the ultimate motivation for him to continue his form going forward this season.
