The newly adopted early transfer deadline for the Premier League and Championship appears to have played against West Ham United.
European sides have until Monday evening to complete their transfer dealings, and the Hammers have been affected by the market and will not be able to replace any outgoings on deadline day.
Sevilla have taken advantage and confirmed the signing of Javier Hernandez, in a deal which according to Sky Sports could be worth up to £8million, for a player who only had 10 months left on their Hammers’ contract.
There were no complaints from the West Ham dressing room, who were reported by Football Insider to have been buoyed by the decision to sanction the exit for Hernandez due to his big wages.
Now the club’s attention moves towards finding a capable replacement for the poacher, with Manuel Pellegrini being left with two senior forwards in the shape of summer signings Albian Ajeti and Sebastien Haller.
Club source, Claret and Hugh, have reported that the Hammers are now considering promoting young forward Xande Silva as a back-up option for the first-team this season.
Silva and Pellegrini will both have to wait to see if that could work, with ExWHUemployee reporting on his personal Twitter account that the young Portuguese forward is not set to return from his emergency bowel surgery until late October.
With at least another couple of months until Silva returns, Pellegrini could have made a transfer mishap, with the Chilean now highly relying on both Ajeti and Haller.
A single injury to either of his summer signings at the beginning of this season would see his West Ham in serious trouble with not many players available to him if so.
The 22-year-old has more than proved he is capable in the under-23s so far when he has featured, scoring seven goals and adding a single assist in just nine games for the academy.
With Silva set to be sidelined till at least the end of October and being considered as an extra option in attack, the decision to let Hernandez go could go down as a transfer mishap.
