Coventry and Holland won’t be allowed out on loan

|

West Ham United manager Manuel Pellegrini will block loan moves away from the club for young starlets Conor Coventry and Nathan Holland, according to Claret & Hugh.

The reliable Hammers news source claims that the two players will not be allowed to depart the London Stadium for temporary spells in the Football League.

The central midfielder and winger both qualify to be included in the first team squad, with Coventry already featuring off the bench against Newport County in the Carabao Cup.

OPINION

It’s fantastic news that these two players won’t be allowed to leave the Hammers on loan, because it tells supporters that Pellegrini is readying them for first team roles in the near future. Clearly he views both players as potential first team stars, with Coventry having already featured once for the senior side this season. Holland, judging by his form for the Irons’ Under-23s side, surely can’t be far away from a first team opportunity either. Pellegrini has obviously decided that it’s better for him to have these two youngsters close by for when he decides they are ready for the senior set-up, rather than farming them out to Championship or League One teams. While that may be slightly frustrating for them personally as they await a proper senior chance, it’s only going to be a positive thing for them in the long run. Besides, it shows the faith that the manager has in them.
