Jamie Redknapp has selected West Ham United defender Issa Diop in his Team of the Week after his performance in the 2-0 win over Norwich City.

The Hammers became the first side this season to keep a clean sheet against the newly-promoted Canaries, as goals from Sebastien Haller and Andriy Yarmolenko were enough for all three points.

Redknapp singled out the West Ham enforcer in his Daily Mail column, as the Frenchman managed to keep the then-Premier League top-scorer Teemu Pukki quiet all afternoon at the London Stadium.

Manuel Pellegrini’s side picked up their first clean sheet of the league season in the win, after conceding seven goals in their first three games of the campaign.

OPINION

After the way the Hammers started the season defensively, Pellegrini would have been delighted to see his side not only come away with three points but a clean sheet as well. Diop was colossal in the victory at the back, with him and Ryan Fredericks the only two defenders to start all four games so far this season. The 22-year-old has been impressive alongside Angelo Ogbonna, averaging 1.5 tackles and 2.5 clearances according to WhoScored. A more impressive part of the French youngster’s game so far in this campaign is how frequently an opponent manages to beat him. Diop has only been dribbled past 0.3 times per game, meaning he is only beaten once in every three games on average – the best in the entire squad of players who have played more than twice this season [WhoScored]. Pellegrini will now be hoping that his side can kick on after the international break, by picking up both clean sheets and wins, after three wins in a row in all competitions for the Hammers.
