Angelo Ogbonna has heaped praise on West Ham United trio Issa Diop, Ryan Fredericks, and Declan Rice.
The Italian defender is in awe of his Hammers’ teammates and believes the club are blessed to have three players that are not only gifted on the pitch but humble off of it.
Ogbonna also spoke glowingly of his manager, Manuel Pellegrini, admitting that the changes the Chilean has made to the club’s training ground has helped transform West Ham.
“He changed a lot of things in the training ground,” he said to the Mirror.
“We now have everything we need as football players.”
“We are blessed because we not only have good players but good people. Diop. Rice, Fredericks. Some players go out and they buy cars and spend money. These players are West Ham are humble with their feet on the ground.”
Ogbonna has started the previous three games in the Premier League this season after missing out on the opening match against Manchester City which ended in defeat.
OPINION
With the defeat to City in the first game the only one on their record so far, the harmony in the West Ham squad appears to be at an all-time high. Monday night’s clash against Aston Villa gives Pellegrini’s men the chance to earn their fourth consecutive win in all competitions and would place them third in the Premier League table – a reward for their fine start. Ogbonna singled out three players who are all humble in their approach, a personality trait that will serve them perfectly if they wish to continue their form over the next few months. Should the Hammers go third with victory over Villa, they must not let it get to their heads as it could see them drop their concentration, but with the humbleness in the squad with players such as Rice, Diop, and Fredericks, Pellegrini seems to have built a squad capable of continuing their form past the first couple of months of action.
