West Ham United defender Aaron Cresswell played a part in Liverpool signing Adrian this summer, according to Football Insider.
The reputable football outlet claimed that it was the Hammers’ defender who gave a recommendation to Liverpool coach John Achterberg, as well as the Spaniard’s phone number.
Football Insider report that Adrian signed a two-year-deal at Anfield after West Ham refused to keep up with the goalkeeper’s £50,000-a-week wage demands.
Fellow keeper, Lukas Fabianski, enjoyed a great year at the London Stadium earning the Hammer of the Year award as his performances quickly made Adrian second choice in East London – a similar role to what he has taken up at the Reds.
OPINION
It comes as no surprise to see Cresswell helping out Reds’ coach Achterberg, given that they both worked together during their time spent with Tranmere Rovers more than a decade ago. It appears like a win-win situation for both Liverpool and West Ham, with Jurgen Klopp now having suitable cover after Alisson Becker’s injury and the Hammers having spared £50,000 in the weekly wage budget which made it possible to bring in two keepers to replace the Spaniard – Roberto and David Martin in the summer. Cresswell possibly needs to spend more time working on his game rather than attempting to work as an agent, especially after being dropped after a single game of the Premier League season. The 29-year-old made a tackle but failed to register a single interception or clearance in the game against Manchester City [WhoScored]. Maybe Cresswell is getting ready for life as an agent after he retires, but helping a fellow Premier League rival sign your club’s keeper seems to be out of his range.
