West Ham United manager Manuel Pellegrini will rush his players into a training session immediately after arriving in China on Sunday, according to Football London.
The outlet claims that the Hammers boss will show no mercy on his jet-lagged players, immediately booking a workout for his squad ahead of the Premier League Asia Trophy.
It’s thought that the session will be on the light side, but Pellegrini is keen for them to get some work in having done nothing since Thursday’s friendly win over SCR Altach.
After Sunday there will be a more regular pattern of training ahead of Wednesday’s clash with Manchester City at the Nanjing Olympic Centre.
This is pretty brutal from Pellegrini, isn’t it? Straight off the plane, onto a bullet train and then right into a training session. The Chilean really has no mercy, doesn’t he? Clearly he views the Asia Trophy as an important platform for his team heading into next season, and with good reason. The Hammers have put together a solid squad, which could still be improved by the addition of a top class striker, so there is reason to be optimistic for the new campaign. A good pre season can lead into a positive competitive season, and that’s what Pellegrini will be thinking, here. He’s obviously concerned that his players haven’t done any work since the Altach game and is keen for them to get back to grips with things before Wednesday’s fixture. If City end up resting plenty of players, then Pellegrini’s side could certainly get one over on his old team in pre season – for what that’s worth.
