West Ham look for one more

West Ham want to make one more signing this summer, according to Football.London journalist Sam Inkersole.

The Hammers have already made four signings this summer, including a club record dealer centre-forward Sebastien Haller.

But Inkersole’s understanding is that the club would ideally like to bring in another player before the window closes on August 8th, with a utility man said to be a priority.

The journalist’s piece for Football.London also directly names Chilean midfielder Gary Medel as a rumour that “won’t go away”.

OPINION

This is probably music to the ears of West Ham fans. The departure of Pedro Obiang this week has left the squad looking a little threadbare, and one more player to bolster the ranks would be a wise move. What position they look to fill, however, remains to be seen. There is an argument that another striker wouldn’t go amiss, with Haller and Javier Hernandez the only real options in the position at the moment, Jordan Hugill aside, but Obiang’s exit could also prompt the Irons to move for a midfielder. Medel is obviously the latter, and his pass success rate of 88.9% last season, not to mention his average of two tackles per match [Whoscored] could make him the ideal candidate. The South American can also drop into the heart of defence when required, and all in all, he seems to tick every box that Pellegrini is looking for at this stage.
