The sale of Pedro Obiang will release more funds for West Ham United to use this summer, according to the Evening Standard.
The newspaper claim on their website that his pending departure to Sassuolo will boost their budget, with Manuel Pellegrini reportedly keen on strengthening his squad further.
This is despite reliable club source, ExWHUemployee, recently admitting on his personal Twitter account that he wouldn’t be surprised if the Hammers had informed Pellegrini they have nothing left to spend this summer.

The Evening Standard also claims that the Hammers may be tempted to replace Obiang, with Reece Oxford and Jordan Hugill also expected to leave the club in the coming weeks.

There seems to be a differing opinion on whether or not West Ham have any more money to spend. Through the money the club are set to receive plus the money saved on the annual wage bill, the Hammers surely have money left in the bank to bring in at least one more fresh face this summer. Italian journalist Gianluca Di Marzio confirmed on Monday that the Obiang deal is set to be worth £7.1million with selected bonuses – surely enough to put towards a replacement. Saturday’s Premier League Asia Trophy defeat against Newcastle all but proved that the Hammers are crying out for reinforcements, as the East Londoners were dominated for the full 90 minutes against a side that has yet to make a signing and are in constant turmoil surrounding Mike Ashley and the appointment of Steve Bruce. A neutral fan watching that game would have thought that the Hammers were the ones meant to be struggling and that is not on. Any money received from the Obiang deal has to spent on strengthening the squad, or Pellegrini’s men could be quickly found out next season.
