West Ham rate their chances of signing Sebastien Haller at “more than 50/50”, according to Football.London.
The Hammers have been heavily linked with a move for the 25-year-old in recent days, and the report also suggests that Eintracht Frankfurt will demand upwards of £36 million plus add-ons for the striker.
But an inside source told Football.London that the likelihood of a deal happening was more than half.
OPINION
It’s hard to tell if this is good news or not. It’s definitely better to be above that 50/50 marker than below it, but over half could mean 60/40, and is by no means an assurance of any deal getting done. The one thing that could stand the Hammers in good stead, weirdly, is their desperation. The club needs a striker, that much is certain, with Javier Hernandez the only recognised senior option to have travelled for the Irons’ preseason trip to China. Because of that, they are going to have to push hard for their man. Haller looks like he could be the real deal too. 15 goals last season in Germany is an impressive figure, and he is clearly a handful, judging by the 6.9 aerial duels he won per match [Whoscored]. If he could replicate that kind of form and havoc in the Premier League, leading the line in the image of an old school, bruising centre forward, the Hammers would no doubt see him as a fine investment, regardless of the price.
