West Ham are hoping to tempt Bournemouth striker Callum Wilson away from the south coast with a big money contract offer this summer, according to the Mirror.

The newspaper claim on their live transfer blog on their website (26/06, 20:24) that the Hammers are ready to test their Premier League rivals by launching a move for the England international and tabling a contract which convinces the forward to move to east London.

It is said that Wilson, on £40,000-a-week wages [Spotrac] with the Cherries, is open to leaving Bournemouth if a significant pay rise was offered and that he is weighing up his future at his current club.

Opinion

Wilson would be the perfect signing for West Ham this summer, with a proven goal scoring record and the ability to lead the line with power, strength and intelligence. He has put his injury problems behind him, the 27-year-old suffering two serious setbacks in his career at Bournemouth, and fired his way into the England squad where he has proven his worth. With Marko Arnautovic the only quality option to spearhead West Ham’s attacks heading into next season, Javier Hernandez looking like he will be following Andy Carroll and Lucas Perez out the exit door, someone in the same mould as Wilson is an absolute must. Even doubling his wages to £80,000-a-week would be good value for money compared to what others in the top flight, including at West Ham, are earning. You would expect Wilson would expect a little less than that, making him the ideal capture if the Irons were to pounce.
