New Major League Soccer franchise Austin FC are ready to take striker Javier Hernandez off West Ham United’s hands, according to the Evening Standard.
The newspaper claims that the Texas-based team are interested in the Mexican international and his £140,000-per-week wages. However, they do not enter the MLS until the 2021 season.
Ultimately the 31-year-old would prefer to remain in Europe, preferably Spain, where he spent a single season on loan at Real Madrid in 2014-15.
Hernandez is looking to leave the Hammers this summer having failed to settle in east London since his move from Bundesliga side Bayer Leverkusen two years ago.

This is an interesting one, isn’t it? There are a few different things to look at here. Firstly, Hernandez is attempting to leave West Ham this summer, that’s written in black and white in the Standard’s report. However, that’s probably something that works for the Hammers, who have embarked on a concerted effort to whittle down their wage bill this summer. The Mexican is clearly on huge money and has produced precious little for it, so it wouldn’t be the worst thing in the world if he was moved on as soon as possible. Austin FC, though, clearly wouldn’t be able to sign him right away. If Hernandez is going to move to Texas then he’ll need to wait another year before he does so. However, if he is to stay in Europe, as he prefers, then he’ll surely have a fair few options. Valencia have long been mooted as a potential destination for the former Manchester United man, but who knows where he’ll end up.
