West Ham United are likely going to need to recruit some central midfield help this summer, with the team suffering from a lack of numbers throughout this season.
Declan Rice and Mark Noble have been the regulars, with Pedro Obiang usually filling in for them if either man couldn’t play. The likes of Jack Wilshere and Carlos Sanchez, though, spent almost the entire campaign on the treatment table.
While those two will be expected to contribute next term, Obiang is consistently linked with a Hammers exit, leaving a spot in the midfield ranks. That hole, though, could end up being filled by Huddersfield Town star Aaron Mooy.
Football London put the Australian international forward as a domestic-based player Manuel Pellegrini’s side could bring in this summer, noting that the club have been monitoring him.
That’s a major hint that he’s someone West Ham think could be a good fit, and on paper he’s an ideal recruit. He’s a proven Premier League performer who likely wouldn’t cost the earth after the Terriers’ relegation.
He has the energy levels and the technical ability to be a big success at the London Stadium, with those two traits being vitally important to any Pellegrini player. Having experienced top flight football, the player himself would also surely love to stay in the Premier League.
There will likely be plenty of competition for the 28-year-old, given that he has been Huddersfield’s standout player during their stay in the top flight, but if West Ham want to make a legitimate push for Europe next season then he’s the midfielder they need.
