West Ham United manager Manuel Pellegrini will face something of a dilemma as far as his goalkeepers go this summer.

Lukasz Fabianski is firmly installed as the club’s number one shot-stopper and will be for a few years to come, but his current back up Adrian looks set to leave the Hammers when his contract expires at the end of the season.

However, when looking for someone to compete with Fabianski, Pellegrini might be staring the solution right in the face. Exceptional academy product Nathan Trott is someone who the Chilean should consider showcasing next time out.

Yes he’s raw at just 20 years of age, but he has done tremendously well for the club’s youth teams and it’s time to see what he can do in and around the first team.

Unfortunately reliable Hammers news source Claret & Hugh reported in March that Trott would be loaned to a Championship side this summer, with West Ham signing a veteran ‘keeper to sit behind Fabianski for a year.

That’s not a bad way to go, but why not give Trott the opportunity to sit and learn behind Fabianski right now? He doesn’t need to play just yet, but he will improve so much from spending time with the Pole day in day out at Rush Green.

Plus, he will be given the opportunity to play in cup competitions. Those are relatively low-stress encounters on the whole, especially the early-stage Carabao Cup clashes, and so they would be a good gauge of what Trott can do at this level.

There’s no point Pellegrini going out and bringing in a veteran to back up Fabianski when he already has the perfect number two at the club, someone who will one day be number one. What could be better?
