West Ham and Leicester City are both keen on promising Colchester United midfielder Noah Chilvers, according to The Sun.

The national newspaper claim that the Hammers and the Foxes have been monitoring the 18-year-old and have earmarked him as a potential top flight star of the future.

The Sun report that both Premier League side’s are expected to test Colchester United’s resolve over holding on to Chilvers, despite the English club acting to secure the teenager’s future by offering him a two-year deal.

OPINION

This could be a smart move for the Hammers as Chilvers may be available for a bargain price given his potential. According to the Sun, the teenager is yet to sign a professional contract with Colchester and could leave the League Two side as a result. In this scenario the Hammers would have to pay Colchester compensation if they picked up Chilvers services and that likely wouldn’t be that high of a figure. Chilvers made his senior debut for Colchester this season and that shows that he could be one to watch. If the League Two believe the 18-year-old is showing enough to warrant featuring for John McGreal’s side then it shows how confident they are of his ability. While Hammers supporters will salivate over players their club are linked to that could make an instant difference in Manuel Pellegrini’s side if recruited, it is nice that the London club are keeping their eye out for any promising young talents that could be developed into the next big thing.
