Michael Owen has predicted Chelsea to beat West Ham when the two Premier League sides clash on Monday.

The former Liverpool player shared that he thought victory was looking essential for the Blues if they wanted to keep their top-four hopes alive and pointed out that they had made Stamford Bridge a fortress this season.

Owen added that while he thought the Hammers had plenty of attacking flair in their squad, he thought it was highly unlike they’d earn a point against Chelsea due to their form.

“Chelsea followed up their late win at Cardiff with a resounding 3-0 home win over Brighton on Wednesday and will be hoping to make it a quick double when they host West Ham,” wrote Owen for his BetVictor predictions.

“Victory is looking essential to keep their top four hopes alive and with only one defeat on home soil in the PL this term they have made Stamford Bridge quite a fortress.

“The Hammers have taken just one point from a possible last eighteen on the road and despite plenty of attacking flair are highly unlikely to add to that tally here.”

OPINION

Owen doesn’t really give West Ham any chance of beating Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on Monday even though he believes Manuel Pellegrini’s have plenty of attacking flair. It’s no surprise the pundit is predicting a miserable Monday for the Hammers as their recent form has been shocking. The Hammers were swept aside by Cardiff City, just about beat Huddersfield Town and were absolutely terrible against Everton in their latest outing. A lot of the Hammers players looked void of confidence and didn’t seem to make any form of a positive impact against Toffees. While Chelsea’s form has been a little bit of a rollercoaster ride, it’s hard to see the Hammers being able to exploit their rivals weak points. The only reason you’d back the Hammers to achieve a point or even a win, is just because of how they’ve fare against the top-six sides this season. The Hammers seemed to raise their game when facing those competing near the top, and maybe that will happen once again.
