Pedro Obiang is not a West Ham United player that the fans have been particularly fond of this season, and rightly so.

The 27-year-old has not been up to scratch in the slightest this season, something which was reinforced in their last defeat to Everton last weekend. It is clear that he cannot hack it at Premier League level, which is why the likes of Mark Noble and Declan Rice are always ahead of him in the pecking order.

How he got a start last weekend remains to be seen, but he has no doubt fallen out of favour with Manuel Pellegrini after such a dismal display. That being said, he could be set for even further misery to be heaped on him.

Summer signing Carlos Sanchez has been ruled out for the majority of this season, but Football London correspondent Sam Inkersole has claimed on his personal Twitter account that the 33-year-old could return to light first team training in the next one to two weeks.

This is not great news in the slightest for Obiang, as it means that he could fall even further down the queue for a starting spot. The fact that Sanchez could return to light training indicates that there is a high possibility that he will make a return to action before the season ends.

The £55,000-a-week [Spotrac] player has not done himself any favours with his latest performance, so the likelihood of Sanchez getting some minutes over him is pretty much a certainty – which means that Obiang will surely be sweating buckets at this news.

Yes, we have not seen much of the veteran midfielder – he has only appeared six times this term – but this could be the chance for him to try and prove his worth to the team.

Either way, Obiang will be rather worried about his first team chances if Sanchez makes his likely comeback.
