Nasri must play some part v Chelsea

Last weekend’s 2-0 defeat to Everton is one West Ham United fans will no doubt want to permanently erase from their memories.

The Hammers reached a new low against the Toffees, and it was difficult to point out anyone who put in any ounce of effort that evening, aside from Lukasz Fabianski of course.

One player who was definitely on the receiving end of criticism was midfielder Robert Snodgrass, who possibly submitted one of the worst displays we have seen from him in a West Ham shirt. That being said, that has done him no favours ahead of Monday’s clash against Chelsea.

He was completely anonymous in the first half with Everton completely dominating and his awful free kick pretty much summed up what an atrocious day it was for him.

However, this shocker has certainly opened the door for Samir Nasri to make a case for a start in a few days’ time. Manuel Pellegrini confirmed his pre-match press conference – as relayed by Football London – that Nasri will make a return after suffering with a calf problem.

If there is any chance to get game time before his loan spell ends, this should be it. This is also the opportunity to impress Pellegrini if he wants to stay at the London Stadium.

Yes, admittedly Nasri has not made the comeback to football that he envisioned when joining the Irons. Nevertheless, there is absolutely no denying the playmaker’s quality on the ball – all he needs to do is be consistent.

Pellegrini simply cannot afford to risk Snodgrass on Monday against what is a rampant Chelsea side. Nasri can offer some new ideas to the fold, something which is needed after last Saturday’s horror show.

Either way, the manager must hand a start to Nasri, as it is the perfect time to cement his first team place.
