OPINION

John Motson dismissed the idea that the wheels could be coming off at Manchester United ahead of them facing West Ham despite their poor run of form.

The legendary commentator shared that it was funny how everyone was so quick to point out that Man United had suffered four defeats in their last five games, after raving about Solskjaer’s wonderful start as manager.

Motson claimed that the suggestion of Man United’s downfall was overstretched and that the Premier League giants are now back down to earth after the media circus that surrounded their clash with Barcelona.

“Well it’s funny how people dive on statistics as now they’re all going ‘four defeats in five’ after the wonderful start under Solskjaer,” said Motson on talkSPORT (14:37, Friday April 12th).

“Well if you look at the games they’ve been playing, it’s a little bit overstretched that verdict on it.

“I think Manchester United will win this as they’ve come down to earth after the big build-up against Barcelona, I didn’t think the Hammers really stretched Chelsea as much as I thought they would have on Monday night.”

While Motson doesn’t claim that Man United will sweep the Hammers aside, his remarks will surely have many West Ham fans fearing the worst.

The commentator highlights how many are wrongly jumping on the bandwagon to highlight Man United’s poor form and that the club are back in touch with reality after the big build-up for the clash with Barcelona.

These remarks means that Manchester United are an even more danger prospect for the Hammers to face on Saturday as Solskjaer’s side will be out to make a point.

Man United will want to show there’s no reason to be concerned about their form and will aim to make an example of the Hammers as a result.

This is especially the case when Man United look at the Hammers’ recent form and performances, as they know if they turn it on the style, then Manuel Pellegrini’s side are there for taking.

With this in mind, surely loads of Hammers supporters are no doubt braced for a now extra motivated Man United to host them at Old Trafford and take advantage of their side’s recent struggles.

Especially considering as several members of Man United’s squad will want revenge for West Ham dismantling them at the London Stadium earlier in the campaign.
