Eden Hazard said West Ham fans were wrong to be chanting that he was set to leave Chelsea for Real Madrid.

Sky Sports presenter Geoff Shreeves asked the Chelsea playmaker about Hammers fans chanting that he was off to Real Madrid and jokingly enquired whether West Ham supporters knew something the broadcaster didn’t.

“No they’re wrong, I’m just focus on Chelsea until the end of the season,” said Hazard on Sky Sports Premier League (22:04, Monday April 8th).

“We’re trying to finish in top-four, Europa League, as we still have a lot to do.”

Hazard scored both of Chelsea’s goals on Monday during their 2-0 win over West Ham at Stamford Bridge.

OPINION

The Hazard to Real Madrid rumour will never go away and Hammers fans were clearly just trying to wind up Chelsea supporters. Blues fans are very much aware that Hazard is their star player and would be devastated if he left the club in order to join Madrid. Hammers fans didn’t really have much to brag about during Monday’s clash so likely chanted about Hazard going to Madrid just to have some way of ruining the day of some Blues fans. It’s funny that Shreeves thought the chant was worthy of asking Hazard about, though it was just the presenter’s way of getting the playmaker to talk about the possibility of him leaving the club. Yet the Blues playmaker plays down speculation like you expect him to by just stating he is focused on his current club. Based on the fact some Hammers fans were clearly chanting loud enough to get Sky’s attention on Monday, it’s fair to say a few of them would be amused if Chelsea were set to lose Hazard any time soon.
