West Ham never learn when it comes to handing players lucrative contracts.

Well it seems they never learn as despite having big-earners such as Javier Hernandez, Andy Carroll and even Marko Arnautovic not justifying their current pay packets, they won’t shy away from gambling on players by sanction big deals.

According to the Daily Express the Hammers are willing to sign Edin Dzeko to a deal worth in the region of £165,000-a-week in order to ensure the Bosnia international joins them.

In fact the newspaper go on to suggest the deal that the club will potentially propose to lure the attacker to the London Stadium would be one that would see him commit the next two years of his career to the club.

That is a huge risk for the Hammers to take as at the age of 33-years-old, Dzeko is no spring chicken.

The forward may have proven himself in the Premier League before but that doesn’t mean he’ll be a success this time around, especially with age surely set to catch up with him sooner or later.

In fact the Hammers just have to look how signing Javier Hernandez has worked out for them, as he’s hardly been the player he previously was at Manchester United.

Dzeko may have managed 12 goals in 32 outings for AS Roma this season but it’s worth pointing out the demands of regularly playing in England’s top-flight are way more taxing than that of Italy’s Serie A.

The Hammers may need to sign a new forward in the summer but if the figure above is what it ends up taking to convince Dzeko to join, then the Hammers are a risk of making a costly blunder that will haunt their wage bill for two seasons.
