It is hard what to make of West Ham United striker Marko Arnautovic this season. First he shows signs of the magnificent player that he can be, the next minute, he can look like he is putting no effort in whatsoever.

Manuel Pellegrini is certainly getting fed up of a player who blows hot and cold most of the time, but at the moment, he is one of their best options up front – after all, who wants to take their chances with Lucas Perez and Andy Carroll.

However, the 30-year-old has only scored eight goals in 27 appearances for the Hammers this season, which is nowhere near the tally a player of his quality should be producing.

That is why he should be quaking in his boots due to the fact that the club are keen on Eintracht Frankfurt attacker Luka Jovic, as reported by the Mirror’s transfer blog [25/4, 5.48am].

The 21-year-old has netted 25 goals in all competitions this season, a far cry from the efforts of West Ham’s first teamer. In fact, he makes him look minute.

If the Bundesliga dazzler did make the move to the London Stadium – the club’s move for him could be made harder due to the fact that Everton are also interested – then Pellegrini would definitely make Jovic his first choice striker. How could he not after a tally like that?

Arnautovic would surely be pushed down the pecking order with a stellar arrival like the goal machine. There is no competing with that type of figure, especially when the Irons can often struggle for goals as it is.

The fans would certainly be drooling with a signing like the highly-rated Serbian, as he is a player who can come in and transform the team in a way that the current strikers have not done.

Either way, Arnautovic is surely sweating buckets.
