West Ham are joined by Premier League rivals Everton in chasing the capture of Borussia Dortmund’s attacking playmaker Shinji Kagawa, according to Takvim.

The Turkish publication claim on their website that the English pair are both keen on the 97-cap Japanese international and that the German giants have made the 30-year-old available for sale at a price of £10.7million (€12.5million).

There is said to be plenty of interest in the forward, who is currently on loan at Besiktas, with the Super Lig side joined by German clubs in wanting to snap up the former Manchester United star.

Opinion

Kagawa was not exactly a success in the Premier League – despite picking up the league title – last time around but that could well have been because of the weight of expectation on his shoulders. We have seen plenty of world stars make the move to Old Trafford and fail to hit the expected heights, Angel Di Maria one of the most high profile names to do so, and so perhaps a move to the London Stadium, where expectations are tempered somewhat, would do his career the world of good. Having fallen out of favour at Dortmund his form at Besiktas suggests he has still got the magic touch, scoring three goals in six appearances. Of course returning to England would be a risk having struggled in his first spell but you do not get nearly 100 caps for your country if you are not a supremely talented footballer. Only time will tell if this speculation turns into anything, but the West Ham faithful would be wise to shelve any preconceptions they might have if he does end up signing on the dotted line.
