West Ham United supporters were given a behind-the-scenes look at the updated pitch surround at the London Stadium on Wednesday, as revealed by football.london journalist Sam Inkersole’s personal Twitter account. It’s a small issue but it’s one that has been plaguing the club since they moved to the new ground. They wanted the pitch surround to be in the club’s colours to enhance the feeling that this is West Ham’s stadium and not just somewhere they’re renting. To be fair, this does help in that regard, although it has not been warmly received by all Hammers fans. Some think it’s an improvement, some dislike it, some simply don’t care one bit about it. Again, it’s not the biggest deal in the world, but it’s something that helps the London Stadium feel more like home. If the team had enjoyed a more gratifying season then it’s likely that this development would have gone down a lot better. As it is, though, Manuel Pellegrini’s side’s struggles with consistency have likely affected the fans’ reaction to this update.
