OPINION

Jack Wilshere was one of the most highly anticipated Hammers’ signings in recent years, but a history of injuries have made his time at the London Stadium unpleasant.

After being stuck on the sidelines for the last five months, Wilshere finally made an appearance again in a claret and blue shirt against Leicester City, much to the delight of the Hammers faithful.

This was the midfielder’s first appearance in a West Ham shirt since 1st December 2018, and Wilshere will still be hoping he can start a game before the season is out, for the first time since last September.

Pellegrini only gave the 27-year old a few minutes at the back end of West Ham’s 2-2 draw with Leicester at the weekend, but this will have a positive effect on Wilshere for sure.

With only three league fixtures remaining, there isn’t much time for the Englishman to make an impact in terms of results, however there is definitely time for him to be tested on the big stage once again.

After being out for a lengthy space of time, Wilshere needs to be tested as West Ham travel to the Tottenham Hotspur stadium on Saturday.

Arguably, when he stays fit, Wilshere is the best ball playing midfielder at the club. There is absolutely no doubting his ability to perform, only his ability to maintain his fitness.

Even if he doesn’t play the full 90 minutes at the weekend, a place for him in the starting eleven would definitely be a huge step forward, and would no doubt do Wilshere the world of good.

Hopefully, the midfielder will get a few more minutes as the season comes to a close, and then be back to full fitness for the 2019/20 season after a successful pre-season.

However, with Wilshere, you just never know if he’s going to stay fit. That is the main issue.

Yet with not many games left Pellegrini should take a chance on the midfielder against Spurs and throw him in the deep end by starting him, as his presence could work wonders in midfield against Tottenham.
