Pellegrini to have £30m to spend this summer

|

West Ham United chairmen David Gold and David Sullivan will give manager Manuel Pellegrini around £30million to spend this summer, according to Football London.

The outlet claims that the Chilean won’t be permitted to spend as much as he did prior to this season, but he will be able to supplement his war chest with any money made from player sales.

The Hammers are thought to be living beyond their means at the moment, having splashed out £89million last summer, twice breaking their club transfer record.

They won’t be doing that again this summer, but the aforementioned amount should be enough to allow Pellegrini to fix a few niggling issues with his team.

OPINION

This stance makes perfect sense after the vast outlay the club committed themselves to last summer. To be fair to Messrs Gold and Sullivan, they probably expected to see a bit more progress on the pitch after the amount they allowed Pellegrini to spend. However, the team’s slight underperformance this campaign means that Pellegrini will look to improve his squad once again this summer. It would appear that centre back, both full back positions and up front are areas of need. So money will need to be spent, especially if long time target Maxi Gomez arrives. However, there are a number of Hammers players who may depart this summer, which would mean that Pellegrini will likely get more than just £30million to spend. People like Arthur Masuaku, Winston Reid, Carlos Sanchez, Michail Antonio, Lucas Perez and Javier Hernandez could all depart, as well as potentially a few others. So it’s very likely that Pellegrini will end up spending way beyond £30million.
