OPINION

It’s likely that after his dreadful performance against Everton on Saturday that many West Ham United supporters are only too willing to see attacker Marko Arnautovic depart this summer.

Whereas in early January the thought of the 29-year-old leaving the club was a disastrous one, he has declined so sharply in the hearts and minds of Hammers fans that they are ready to never see him in a claret and blue shirt again.

Indeed, West Ham manager Manuel Pellegrini would be wise to end the Austrian’s season now, such is the negative impact he has on the team and the supporters.

His attitude is absolutely woeful and if Pellegrini is smart he’ll ensure it comes nowhere near his team by putting the former Stoke City man on ice until the end of the season when he should be finally offloaded.

Arnautovic has reached toxic status at West Ham. He is hurting the team with his entitled attitude and his lack of work rate. He did nothing against the Toffees, he genuinely produced nothing of note from start to finish and it was no surprise to see him withdrawn in the second half.

He is a tremendous talent, there’s no doubt about that, but everything he does at the moment is a negative for the club. It’s best to leave him on the sidelines where he can do no damage until Pellegrini inevitably gives him the boot in a few month’s time.

Arnautovic’s season must be ended, his Everton display proved that. His influence on the team, once fantastic, has developed into a wholly negative scourge. He must be axed until his summer sale.
