West Ham have set their sights on signing Fulham striker Aleksandar Mitrovic, according to the Mirror.

The Serbian international, valued at £40 million in The Times, has impressed during his spell at Fulham, but his 10 goals this season have not been enough to prevent the Cottagers from suffering an immediate relegation back to the Championship in their long-awaited top flight comeback campaign.

It is now understood that the club faces something of an exodus in the summer, with a number of key players set to leave, and the Mirror suggest that Mitrovic is attracting the attention of the Hammers.

OPINION

This would be a wonderful signing for West Ham if they can pull it off. Mitrovic has matured a lot recently, and has shown that he is more than capable of leading the line for a Premier League side. If he can bag 10 goals in a side as poor as Fulham have been this season, then imagine what he could do in a team with the plethora of attacking talents that the Hammers boast. There will no doubt be a long line of suitors for the services of the Serbian powerhouse, but if he favours a stay in London, and if the right price can be found, there’s no reason that West Ham shouldn’t stand a great chance of signing him. You get the impression that the Irons are about the level that the 24-year-old should be playing at – pushing for a Europa League spot with bog ambitions for the future, and if he can be brought in then he could be the missing piece that helps them realise that aspiration.
