West Ham United midfielder Edimilson Fernandes is likely to seal a permanent move to loan club Fiorentina this summer, according to Claret & Hugh.

The reliable Hammers news outlet claims that the Italian outfit now look certain to trigger their permanent option in Fernandes’s loan contract to sign him for £8million after an impressive season in Serie A from the 22-year-old.

The Switzerland international failed to ever really make an impact in East London and he now looks set to continue his career with Stefano Pioli’s side on a four year contract.

OPINION

This has seemed inevitable for some time considering how well Fernandes has done with Fiorentina this season. He has been a regular starter for the Italian side this campaign and so it’s no surprise that they want to bring him in on a permanent deal. However, you can’t help but think this is a bit of a shame from West Ham’s point of view. Yes, Fernandes never really made a splash at the London Stadium, but he was extremely young back then and is still a young man these days. He has masses of potential and, given how badly short of quality the Hammers are in central midfield, Fernandes could be a useful player to have at Manuel Pellegrini’s disposal moving forward. Pairing Fernandes with Declan Rice would give the team two tremendous young talents performing together in central midfield. That would be phenomenal for the present and the future of West Ham.
