West Ham United winger Michail Antonio will have an ankle problem assessed throughout this week, according to Football London.

The outlet claims that the Hammers will keep a close eye on the 29-year-old during training this week after he was withdrawn late from the squad to face Chelsea on Monday.

The Englishman was removed from the squad at the last minute due to the problem with the ankle which he had picked up during training last Sunday.

OPINION

It was a big blow for West Ham to lose Antonio on the day of the Chelsea game. Despite being in and out of the line up recently he is actually in terrific form when he has played of late, so he likely would have started on Monday. Hopefully he is just being protected this week and that he’s fit enough to take on Manchester United on Saturday, because he would be a big miss if he doesn’t feature against the Red Devils. The Hammers haven’t been getting much production from their wingers recently. Indeed, they have really struggled to score from open play this calendar year. Antonio is someone who brings both goals and creativity, as well as enviable pace. With Manuel Lanzini and Felipe Anderson struggling of late it’s imperative that Antonio is fit enough to take on United. However, we will have to wait until the line up is announced on Saturday to find out.
