OPINION

Samir Nasri has hardly set the Premier League alight since his arrival at West Ham United, has he?

The 31-year-old has perhaps shown glimpses of the player who tore up the league with the likes of Manchester City and Arsenal, but seeing as he spent over a year out of action, it seems as though he is not as good as he used to be.

You cannot blame the Hammers’ supporters for being rather sceptical about the club’s move for the Frenchman. Why on earth would they even consider making a swoop for a player who does not even belong to a club? His fitness was no doubt all over the place, and the same could be said for his inconsistency.

That being said, he has hardly made waves since moving to the London Stadium. Yes, injury has plagued some of that time, but he has definitely not impressed enough to get a permanent stay beyond his current loan spell.

Why would West Ham waste time paying the wages of someone who does not play on a regular basis, has flailing fitness, and whose form is not up to scratch?

They are far better off scouring the transfer market in the summer to find someone a lot more suitable for his role. There is no doubting his quality on the ball, but if he cannot do this consistently, then there is no point keeping him on.

West Ham fans would hardly be upset if his deal was not made permanent after his six appearances. He is hardly a huge loss to the team, and besides, Pellegrini has decent options in the shapes of Robert Snodgrass and Grady Diangana.

The playmaker surely has no future in East London beyond the end of this season, especially with a number of players ahead of him in the pecking order – so Pellegrini must push him out of the door when the time comes.
